
Hormonal Implant
Description:
Contraceptive implants are small rods placed under the skin release the hormone progestone offering 3 to 5 years of pregnancy prevention. Insertion and removal must be done by a trained provider. They're safe for breastfeeding women but can alter monthly bleeding patterns temporarily. Importantly, they're safe for women with Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV)/ Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome (AIDS) on antiretroviral medication. However, they don't protect against sexually transmitted infections, including HIV.
